Dead In Trespasses & Sins
Ephesians 2:1
And you hath he quickened,
who were dead in trespasses and sins;
If unsaved, you are spiritually
dead. You cannot quicken your dead
spirit on your own. You have no live
holy spirit of your own to quicken you.
Only the living God can breathe spiritual life into you. He originates spiritual life, not man.
A dead spirit is dead, d-e-a-d dead. Only a live spiritual being can bring a dead spiritual being to life (and he doesn’t need physical water to do it). Hence, quickening of the spirit is not of your physical works.
Ephesians 2:9 not of works, lest any man should boast.
It is of Christ’s spiritually-controlled physical finished work at Calvary.
John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said,
It is finished:
and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Romans 6:23 ..... the wages of sin is death
Your physical works have no quickening effect on your dead spirit. Physical things have no power over spiritual things. Spiritual always controls physical,
Hebrews 11:3
Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
so you must move into the spiritual realm to have a quickened spirit and be able to overcome natural (physical) man's inability to discern spiritual things. Do not expect to understand the spiritual Bible without the quickened, living spirit of God in you. It won’t happen.
I Corinthians 2:11
For what man knoweth the things of a man,
save the spirit of man which is in him?
even so the things of God knoweth no man,
but the Spirit of God.
